Armwood Triple Threat Stage Race

hosted by Portage Junkyard Dogs Cycling Club
May 25,26, 2013

The 3 stage race road event was a great success! The weather cooperated (what's a little rain on Saturday morning to get the toughness out of ya!) and the support from volunteers was phenominal! Many thanks to the road course crew, follow vehicles, registration team, hospitality group, medic and commissaires.  We had 33 road racers, 24 time trialists and 20 crit racers and all seemed impressed with the well organized event.

Armwood Triple Threat - Stage Race May 25/26, 2013

The Armwood Triple Threat - Stage Race, hosted by the Portage Junkyard Dogs needs your help.

Registration is now open for the races being held May 25 & 26. Many volunteers are needed to ensure a successful event. See earlier blog for more information on the races.

The following Positions are needed:

Road Race, May 25 at Notre Dame: 5 Marshalls
Requirement: arrive at race start site at 9:30, take post of marshaling at appointed intersection/turn around. The race takes approximately 2 hours.

Time Trial, May 26 at Gainsborough Hall: 8 Marshalls
Requirement: arrive at race start site at 9:30, take post of marshaling at appointed intersection/turn around.
This race is not only close by but great for parents and triathletes to see some of the top cyclists in Manitoba battle it out against the clock! The time trials are usually done within 1 1/2 hours, pending the number of racers.

Criterium Race, May 26 at Southport: 5 Marshalls
Requirement: arrive at race start site at 2:30, take post of marshaling at appointed intersection 10 minutes before races start. 3 races are scheduled but if history repeats itself, there will be only 2 races.  Each race takes approximately 30-45 minutes.
The time races by just as fast as the racers along the tight corners and fast track. Fun to watch and marshall.

For information, marshaling is a great way to enjoy the race and contribute to the safety of the racers.

Please email pneudorf@mts.net or call 204 239-1163 and leave a message with the race(s) you can help with!

Thanks so much!

Junk Yard Dogs: Your presence is requested at the Fire Fighters Burn Fund Bicycle Auction

Portage la Prairie firefighter Curtis Rance (left) and fire chief Phil Carpenter pose with two bikes that are up for auction on May 4 at 10 a.m. at the fire hall. Last year the deparment sold 120 bikes raising about $3,500.

I wanted to make you aware of a unique opportunity to promote our club as well as assist a worthy cause.

The annual Fire Fighters Burn Fund Bicycle Auction will take place this Saturday, May 4th, 2013 at the Portage Fire Station, 124 - 3rd Street NE.

The auction begins at 10AM with bikes being displayed as early as 9AM.

I think this would be a great opportunity for members to show up on their bikes, wearing their JYD jerseys and their helmets (of course) and promote the club with our presence.

There will also be volunteer opportunities during the auction, so showing up would be a good opportunity to contribute to the cycling community and the community at large.

Please consider coming out even for a short time - much appreciated.

Bob Guenther
President - Portage Junk Yard Dogs Cycling Club
